Founder’s Story

Our Origin: A Love That Transcends Life

In 2002, a 12-year-old girl named Emily welcomed her most important family member—a brown Labrador named Mike. While her parents traveled frequently for business, Mike became her loyal companion. They played football in the yard, chased waves at the beach every summer, and shared ice cream under the sun. For 18 years, Mike was not just a pet but Emily’s family, friend, and guardian.

Yet, just before Emily’s wedding day, Mike passed away due to severe lung disease. Amidst the joy of marriage and the grief of loss, Emily refused to let regret overshadow her celebration. Using Mike’s fur, she handcrafted a wool felt portrait and a miniature brooch to wear at her wedding. When guests saw the lifelike details of Mike in the brooch, they marveled, “This isn’t just art—it’s love made visible.”

This magic stemmed from Emily’s love for Mike and her unique talent. As a university architecture student, she mastered 3D structural analysis, a skill she later channeled into wool felting. Emily eventually met a wool artist Jolie. Bonding over shared passion, they co-founded Wooly Pawtrait to help families preserve the eternal warmth of pets lost to time or tragedy.

Handcrafted Process: Where Art Meets Heart

Every Wooly Pawtrait creation is a fusion of artistry and emotion. Guided by Emily and Jolie, our artisans blend traditional needle-felting with architectural precision to capture every detail—from fur texture to the sparkle in their eyes, paw pads to unique postures.

Crafting a 30cm life-size replica takes over 1,000 hours of dedication:

  • Color Matching: Mix 20+ natural wool shades to replicate sunlit fur gradients;
  • Dynamic Sculpting: Use 3D sketches to immortalize signature poses, like a tail mid-wag;
  • Soulful Storytelling: Artisans interview clients to infuse each piece with the pet’s personality.

As one customer shared, “When I unboxed my Golden Retriever sculpture, it felt like he was about to leap into my arms—that’s the Wooly Pawtrait magic.”
